Eurolib is active in:
- Promoting the development and preservation of European information.
- Supporting inter-library co-operation in areas such as acquisitions, selection of technology
solutions
for libraries and development of bibliographic standards.
- Identifying opportunities to benefit from cost-sharing and economies of scale, with a
particular
emphasis on joint procurement, where appropriate.
- Promoting a common European approach to library services, including conservation, copyright
and
collection access.
- Creating opportunities for knowledge sharing and professional exchange.
- Providing a forum for inter-library cooperation on projects and programmes.
- Identifying a common European approach to the provision of EU documentation, EU publications
and
EU
grey literature.
- Providing professional development and training for staff of member institutions.
- Offering expert advice to member institutions.
- Co-operating with relevant innovative information programmes of the EU.
- Providing a mechanism to formulate and communicate common positions of the member
institutions.
A focal point of Eurolib’s annual programme is its biannual meetings, which provide a forum for
exchange
and
collaboration. The Eurolib presidency is organised on a rotating basis, with presidents serving
five-year
terms. Membership is open to libraries and information services of the EU institutions and agencies.
Libraries of other European organisations may also apply for membership.
